Weott - Founder's Grove

Avenue of the Giants
Weott (north of), California 95571
Southern Humboldt

Founder's Grove might be the most popular of the groves within Avenue of the Giants.  It hosts the Dyerville Giant; a massive redwood tree that once stood at an estimated 370 feet and weiged in at 1 million pounds.  Yes, 1 million pounds!  There are also three easy loops that total less than a mile.  The trails are wheelchair accessilble.
How to get there:
Founder's Grove is slightly less than twelve miles south from the northern entrance to Avenue of the Giants and just a few miles north of the Visitor Center. On Highway 101 in either direction, take the Honeydew exit, where you can pick up Avenue of the Giants, and head south; the Grove will be just across the river on your left.
More info:
Grab a brochure at the trailhead for more information about the trails and surrounding area.
Other things to do in the area:
Across the street is Leatherwood Bar which is a great place to catch some sun or go for a swim.  Take a stop by the Dyerville Bar and Overlook for a picnic, swimming and spectacular views.
