The South Spit, or Table Bluff as the locals know it, is a place where visitors can spread out, find a quiet place to slow down for a while and enjoy one of northern California's magnificent beaches. 
This day-use only park/beach is also a great place for family fun, horseback riding and other activities.  There are restroom facilities, picnic tables, amazing views from Table Bluff County Park located on the bluffs above and miles of coastline for nature walking, fresh air and some sunshine (most of the time).  This beach is huge so if you're looking to find some peace as the ocean waves crash against the shore, check out this beach.   
The South Jetty is a popular place for fishing.
How to get there:
Take the Hookton Road Exit off of Highway 101 and travel west.  Hookton Road will turn into Table Bluff Drive and follow it for about 5 miles.  This road will lead you directly to the park.
More info:
Vehicles are allowed on the beach but on the waveslope only.  They are prohibited in the dunes.  Horses are welcome on the ocean side of South Jetty Road only. The south spit is a major breeding area for the Western Snowy Plovers.  If you're reading this between March 1st and September 15th, please consult the park's Website  as there are restrictions put in place to protect and encourage their longevity.  The gate into the park closes one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise.

Other things to do in the area: 
The east side of the wildlife area is connected to the Humboldt Bay Wildlife Refuge.  From the South Jetty you can see the North Jetty and the Samoa Dunes Recreation Area.
