Shelter Cove - Tolkan Campground

King Peak Road
Shelter Cove, California 95589
Southwest Humboldt

This small campground is in the King Range National Conservation Area and puts you in the middle of hiking, biking and other activities.
There are very limited sites here and they are on a first come, first served basis.  There are picnic tables and fire rings but no vault toilets or hookups.  Bring your own water.  Sites are only $8/night.

How to get there:
From Redway, take Shelter Cove Road west for 22 miles.  Take King Peak Road north and the campground will be on your right a little over 3 miles up the road.  The map marks where Shelter Cove Road meets King Peak Road.
More info:
This is bear country so be sure to store food and scented items in proper containers.
Other things to do in the area:
The Paradise Royale Mountain Bike Trail is right down the road.  If you're going to visit the ocean, be sure to stop by Mal Coombs Park in Shelter Cove and Black Sands Beach.
