Klamath - Klamath Tour Thru Tree

430 Highway 169
Klamath, California 95548
Del Norte County
Phone: 707-482-0227

More than 725 years ago, a redwood tree began to grow outside the tiny community of Klamath and over the years it was scarred by a forest fire and its top blown off by a mighty storm.  Like all redwoods, however, the tree was a survivor and today it stands as a healthy, living monument to its storied past.
In 1976 a tunnel was carved through the tree and today you can actually drive through the trunk of this enormous giant now known as the Tour Thru Tree.
How to get there:
Once you cross the Klamath River on Highway 101, take the next exit which is Klamath Glen Road.  Take Klamath Glen Road right and the Tour Thru Tree will be on your left shortly after.
More information:
It's $5 to drive through the tree.  Motorcycles are only $3.
Other things to do in the area:
The Klamath Overlook allows for incredible views of the coastline, has trails down to the beach and is a popular whale watching point in the area.  In Crescent City, Beachfront Park and the Battery Point Lighthouse are two popular places to stop and enjoy the water.
