Shelter Cove - Cape Mendocino Lighthouse

Machi Road
Shelter Cove, California 95589
Southern Humboldt
Website

The Cape Mendocino Lighthouse has an interesting and storied history.  While it now sits peacefully at Mal Coombs Park at the tip of Point Delgada, it was once one of the most remote lighthouses in the world, helping to protect ships in the severely treacherous waters of the northwest coast.  The lighthouse is open for tours when volunteers are available; usually between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
How to get there:
From Redway, take Shelter Cove Road west about 31 miles.  As you enter Shelter Cove, take a left on Machi Road and follow it down to the entrance of Mal Coombs Park where the lighthouse is located.

Other things to do in the area:
Play Golf on an Airstrip or if you're looking for more places to rest and relax along the ocean, a visit to Black Sands Beach is a must.
