The Humboldt Botanical Gardens is a world-class botanical garden for the Northern California region.  The Gardens are constructed on a 44.5-acre site south of Eureka near Humboldt Bay and adjacent to the College of the Redwoods.
The gardens also host quite a few special events, classes, workshops, sales and other activities that the public is welcome to attend.  Its website will have dates and more information about these happenings.
How to get there:
Traveling north on Highway 101, take the Hookton Road exit (at the bottom of the hill) to the right.  Make a left on Tompkins Hill Road.  The Botanical Gardens will be on your right once you pass College of the Redwoods.
Traveling south on Highway 101, take the Tompkins Hill Road exit.  The entrance to the Botanical Gardens will be on your left.

Other things to do in the area:
The Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge is just across the highway from the Gardens and Hookton Slough is nearby as well.  If you're looking to head out to the beach, Table Bluff is about five miles away and has lots of room to explore and relax.
