The Friends of the Dunes (FOD) is a not-for-profit that has been involving the community in the conservation of coastal environments since 1982.  The FOD is known for coastal ecostystem restoration, educational programming and informative and guided walks.  The center also plays host to a number of events throughout the year that are open to the public.
The Nature Center is right in front of Manila Dunes Recreation Area; a wonderful beach with fantastic dunes.  Be sure to take a walk around the dunes while you're there.
How to get there:
From Arcata; take Highway 255 south toward Samoa.  Stamps Lane will be on your right.
From Eureka; take Highway 255 across the bridges toward Samoa.  Make a right on New Navy Base Road and Stamps Lane will be on your left a few miles later.

Other things to do in the area:
The Samoa Dunes Recreation Area is just to the south of the Nature Center as are the Humboldt Bay Maritime Museum and the Samoa Cookhouse Logging Museum. The Arcata Marsh and Arcata Community Forest are wonderful parks and are also nearby.
