Tolowa Dunes is made up of the ocean beach, the Smith River, open and vegetated sand dunes, wooded ridges and wetlands.
A diverse assortment of birds, animals and plant life thrive here and the area serves as an important stopover on the Pacific flyway for thousands of migrating ducks, geese and swans.  The wildlife viewing here is pretty incredible.
The Smith River is a good place for salmon and steelhead fishing and cutthroat trout can be taken at Lake Earl.
This place is absolutely stunning and worth a visit on your road trip to/through Del Norte County.
How to get there:
The park is located two miles north of Crescent City.  Check the map for your best route to get there.
Camping info:
Basic amenities are provided for campers at two primitive campgrounds, including a ride-in horse camp and six walk-in sites.
More info:

Other things to do in the area:
The Lake Earl Wildlife Area is just south and has an incredible amount to offer.  Just north in Smith River, visit the Rowdy Creek Fish Hatchery and spend some time at the beach at Clifford Kamph Memorial Park.  Jedediah Smith Park is eight miles east of Crescent City on Highway 199 and is another of the area's magnificent parks.
