Mt. Shasta - Castle Lake

Castle Lake Road
Mt. Shasta , California 96067
Siskiyou County

Located in Siskiyou County, this 50-acre lake is absolutely stunning.  Up the road from Lake Siskiyou and just west of Mt. Shasta, the lake is geographically in the Trinity Mountains and surrounded by a vast amount of hiking, biking, camping and other lakes.
Bring your kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard, the views from the middle of the lake are pretty sweet.
There is a short trail around part of the lake, picnic tables along the water and plenty of space to relax and enjoy the beauty of the area.  There are also restrooms on site.
How to get there:

From I-5, take the Central Mt. Shasta Exit and go west.  Take a left at the stop sign (the Sisson Museum will be in front of you) and then make a right onto W.A. Barr Road where you'll go past Lake Siskiyou.  Turn left onto Castle Lake Road and follow it just over 7 miles to the parking lot.
Camping info:
There are six primitive campsites that are on a first-come, first-served basis.  There are no fees and a three-day maximum for stays. The campground typically opens as soon as the snow melts enough; usually around May.  Click HERE for more information about the Castle Lake Campground or visit our Camping Section for more places to camp in the area.
More info:
Fishing is ok at the lake with a license.
Other things to do in the area:
There are quite a few cool Art Galleries and Museums in the area.  It's a quick hike to Faery Falls which is located right off of Castle Lake Road.  Mt Shasta City Park, which is home to the Sacramento River Headwaters, and Shastice Park are also great places to check out in Mt. Shasta.
